Accessibility statement
We aim for the site to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, because the people who need official business records include anyone running or checking a business.
What we have built in
- A skip link at the top of every page and full keyboard access to menus, forms, the map and sortable tables.
- Visible focus outlines and text contrast that meets AA on body copy.
- Every map state is a real link with a text name, so the state directory works without a mouse or without the map.
- Search results are announced to screen readers through live regions on the name check and EIN tools.
- Pages respect reduced-motion settings and work at 200 percent zoom without sideways scrolling.
Known limits
Links to state agency websites go to systems we do not control, and some use captchas or layouts that are hard to use with assistive technology. When an agency search blocks you, its phone number is on every state guide.
